If you have been waiting with baited breath for London Fashion Week and been glued to the live streaming like us, you will agree that ithas not let us down.
Day One of the fashion extravaganza met all of our expectations from Orla Kiely with her fabulous 20s performance in a tea room to Alexa Chung beautiful at Henry Holland.
Irish designer Orla Kiely’s 2012 autumn winter 2012 collection was launched in a 1920′s tearoom full with wallpaper, an orchestra and dancers. The designer utilised James Clavell’s To Sir With Really like as inspiration so we saw retro shorts and ankle socks, floral prints and tea dresses. We want to go back to the 20s it looked like so significantly fun!
Emilia Wickstead, in contrast, had a quite different collection for 2012 with crop tops in winter! We loved the feminine, chic tailoring with elbow length gloves and brocade maxi skirt. The polished, slicked back hair with a flash of red lipstick perfectly complimented the look.
Henry Holland showed on the very first day and his show had the typical mix of celebrities including Alexa Chung and Poppy Delevigne. Holland claimed backstage that the label was growing up since the team were growing up.
It was absolutely a more sophisticated collection this year.
The theme was houndstooth, it was everywhere and in every single shade, occasionally even metallic. I would truly step more than men and women to get the blue coat or the navy shift with houndstooth, blue stitching.
The cherry red accents were amazing, glamorous and luxurious. We had been not sold on the skin tight leather trousers, we will be leaving them thanks. The vibrant red jumpsuit was a total surprise, in a very good way although possibly a small Anika Rice.
Sister by Sibling was a revelation to us today. The London knitwear collection has only shown at LFW when prior to but the show started with the sound of loud pop booming and they lived up to their promise with loud, eye popping colours.
We were not in really like with the leopard print but the vivid pink, backless knitted dress and pom poms were undoubtedly eye catching. There was even a cute fox-head vibrant orange stole, just to catch our eye.
Simone Rocha is new in the fashion globe after graduating from Central St Martins in 2010 and we had been told to preserve an eye out for her. We were not impressed by the boyish look. Apparently Lady Gaga is a fan, which to be fair is a reason in itself not to look at her stuff!
There was a lot of significant, boxy pieces, wool and layers.
