Sensing slow momentum with Ice Cream Sandwich and a growing push for Microsoft’s Windows 8, Google may well launch Android 5., a.k.a. Jelly Bean, in thesecond quarter of 2012, according to Tiawanese publication DigiTimes.
Based on its prior launches, it would make sense for Google to introduce Jelly Bean in the second quarter, but not necessarily launch it. Android four. Ice Cream Sandwich was introduced in the second quarter of 2011 at Google’s I/O conference, but it did not get totally official til its legit debut in October. Google’s I/O conference this year is scheduled for late June 27, so it could effortlessly debut Jelly Bean there.
Android 5. will reportedly add even much more emphasis on tablet functions and it could provide dual-boot functionality in between Android and Google’s Chrome OS. Google also is coaxing vendors into offering dual-boot abilties among Android and Windows 8. The company may also attempt to bring Android 5. to the notebooks and netbooks.
Jelly Bean could face significant adoption challenges, however, based on what we’ve seen with Ice Cream Sandwich adoption. Motorola, for example, has currently indicated that it will be taking its time to update a lot of devices to Ice Cream Sandwich. Most of Moto’s phones and tablets won’t see Ice Cream Sandwich by the third quarter at least.
Windows 8 is most likely to launch late in the third quarter of the year. Microsoft’s new OS will attempt to bridge the gap in between desktop and mobile with the capability to assistance touch screens and switch between traditional apps and touch-friendly Metro apps.
